Oleuropein is responsible for many of the antioxidant, antihypertensive and hypoglycemic effects of olive leaf extract although the leaves contain contain many other pharmacologically active constituents, including oleuroside, ligstroside, demethyoleuropein and oleacein; flavonoids such as apigenin, kaempferol, luteolin; phenolics such as caffeic acid and 2-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl) enthanol; and triterpenoids such as erythrodiol.
