
Digestive Spice Mixtures
Garam masala is a wonderful aromatic blend of several dry-roasted and ground spices. Throughout Indian history, most households have their favorite blends--some with only three or four ingredients and some with a dozen or more.
Ayurveda has raised this delightful kitchen cooking staple to a new medical standard through the doshic-guided combinations and the addition of specific medicinal herbs with unique actions.
Use these absolutely delicious mixtures by adding them to grains, vegetables, or legumes during cooking or sprinkle them onto food during the meal, as a condiment. Although the principle effect of digestive spice mixtures is to generate internal digestive fire, in Ayurveda we have slightly different recipes for Vata, Pitta, and Kapha constitutions.
Vata Churna
A combination of warming, calming, and slightly unctuous spices and herbs
which will help eliminate any tendency toward constipation or flatulence and
will promote the assimilation of nutrients.

A soothing, cooling mixture which will protect against high acidity while
at the same time will ensure complete digestion and absorption of all food
types. Can be used by everyone in hot weather or if you're feeling excessive
body heat, impatience, or irritated.

Kapha Churna
A really nice balance of spices which will stimulate the digestion of the
heavier food articles such as proteins, starches, and root vegetables. This
spice mixture will help prevent the accumulation of mucous and intestinal
gas and will gently promote complete and regular bowel movements.
