Ayurvedic Moisturizing Cream, Tridoshic
Ayurveda acknowledges that no aspect of aging is as immediately noticeable or readily visible to others as that which occurs in the skin. Upon a first encounter, we are all consciously or unconsciously judged by the image we project. The skin is a major indicator of health and vitality. We estimate age, personality, status, race, and health merely by looking at a person's skin. The eyes may be the mirror of the soul, but the skin often reflects the mental and physical state. Psychological studies show that people who feel themselves to be physically attractive are more optimistic, have a better personality profile, and have less health problems than those who feel unattractive.
Ayurveda reminds us that most of the skin conditions afflicting modern societies are preventable. The skin is the largest organ in the human body and it is quite active! It acts as the interface between our internal bodies and the billions of foreign substances in the environment. Its activity often manifests as acne, rashes, irritations, scaling, flaking, or redness.
Drinking at least five to seven 8 oz. glasses of water daily and eating fluid-rich fruits and vegetables help normalize dry or oily conditions, and is essential for preventing your body from losing its necessary moisture through the skin.
In addition to internal liquid refreshment, skin requires external water replenishing. This is where moisturizers can be extremely effective. Moisturizers (also called humectants) attract moisture to the skin's surface and hold it there. Younger skin only needs light moistuizing whereas older skin needs specific nourishing treatments.
A vast array of natural moisturizers are available. Every Ayurvedic physician has formulated his/her own special recipe. Ours is the a tridoshic formula developed by vaidya Scott Gerson, M.D., Ph.D. Scholar (Ayu). Its main ingredients are listed below (but not the actual recipe!). The metal, mineral and gemstone ingredients (i.e. gold, silver, pearl ash) used in these formulas are genuine and are the key to their effectiveness. They are prepared using traditional Ayurvedic rasashastra methods.
Most commercially available moisturizers (even the really expensive ones!) although soothing and pleasant smelling, remain on the surface of the skin. In addition, they all contain preservatives, emulsifiers, and other chemicals. But Ayurvedic formulations which correctly combine both aqueous and oil extracts of herbs and minerals, due to their molecular structure, work their way through from the surface to the inner dermis layer. As you will see, they are light enough to be absorbed spontaneously by skin without clogging pores or leaving an oily sensation. Because they contain no preservatives, they are best stored between 35-40º F (i.e. refrigerated) or at least in a cool place. Enjoy!
