The Yogayurveda Shala has drawn inspiration in particular from the advaita vedantic tradition as propounded by His Holiness Brahmananda Saraswati and his late disciple Shri Shantananda Saraswati, the late Shankaracharya of Jyotir Math in northern India. Dr. Gerson entered a school under his auspices in 1974 and was initiated into vedic meditation in this tradition shortly thereafter.
Advaita vedanta is the philosophy of non-duality which teaches the unity between the individual self and the universal consciousness. Differences which seem to exist in creation are essentially illusory in nature (maya). With the cultivation of reason and love, the underlying unity may be discovered and life may be led by individuals and societies in such a way that leads to realization of truth and ultimately to liberation.
To aid this process the practice of meditation (dhyana) is offered. This is a traditional system based on the use of a bija-mantra and offers greater depth of experience of unity. The aim is the full realisation of the truth of one Self. His Holiness Shri Shantananda Saraswati was renown for his refinement of vedic meditation and his generosity in freely sharing his profound insights with all who sought Truth.
